You speak truly on most of it. Hip hop isn't dead but it has lost its true meaning. I understand what you mean when you say it is very different when we turn on the radio. Things have changed and are still changing in the music. Hip hop used to be so meaningful, yet today it is not the same.

I understand your excitement. Convocation was so inspiring. Dr. Ben Carson was very encouraging. I thought his speech was amazing. His speech amde me want to work even harder in college to make it. He taught us to want to help other people even when we feel as if we ahve reached the top. I guess you and I both shared a great experience.

and then look back frowning thinking what could have been what should have been

Still think its too late

So once again they lose out on the lesson of time

It is better to learn your lessons now than to wait n have to wonder and think the lesson I learned today I could have learned a long time ago!!

True meaning of community service

Community Service is voluntary work intended to be for common good, usually done as part of an organized scheme. (Dictionary.com) For most people community service is a job, but the true meaning of community service many people fail to realize. Community service really means to give whole heartedly back to your community without expection anything back. We do community service to make our community better. A person who loves to do community service cares about the outcome of his community. He wants to see his community come up. Usually community service is assigned, yet it should be done because a group volunteered to make a change in thier neighborhood. They seen a better way the community could be so they made the change. Community service is more than just an assignment.

Students and their struggles in college

"A recent American College Health Association survey of UO students indicate 96% of those felt "overwhelmed by all they had to do" on at least on occasion. A further 63% indicate that they had "felt things were hopeless" at least once during the year. This suggest to me not that most students are walking around feeling hopeless, but rather that normal college life is fraught with stress and emotional lows are part of the river's course." ( College Struggles). As you can see many college students struggle throughout their college experence. Many students have the worries of finances and what going on back home. Yet, most students deal with the struggle of grades and the compacity of college work. There is so much more to college than doing the work and moving forward. You deal with the fact that you are trying to please everyone. Most students feel like they are obligated to be the best because of pressure instead of being the best because they want to do it for themselves. Some students get to a stress point where they feel as if they can't breathe. They do not feel as if they can make it through college. Finance problems are even worse because one thinks she cannot afford college, so the issue because how long will she really get to be at the college of her dreams. She then becomes hopeless with everything. College can be very stressful for students. Sometimes some people should just understand.

Self Assessment

This is my Self Assessment!!

In my posts I have recently blogged about Barack Obama. He was my study because that is the book and person we had been reading about in class. Although I did have a couple blogs that dealt with music. I chose those because music is my 2nd passion. I love music and the entertainment business within itself. I plan to be in the entertainment business one day as an actress, director, and producer. I enjoy blogging. I did not know exactly how to blog or why blogging was important up unitl the day Dr. Diaz, my college freshman english teacher, told me I had to do it for a grade. At that point blogging becoma of interest. I never decided to revise my blogs because I felt like when I wrote them they were written that way for a reason. The aspects of blooging that I value is that I am allowed to voice my own opinion. I am allowed to say what I want when I want as I please. I share my opinion in my blogs just as well as stating the facts and sources. I do enjoy blogging.

In writing essays for this class it is intriguing. I find it to be this way because instead of us choosing our own topic or Dr.D iaz giving us a specific topic, we write from things we have read. It is like writing a response to a book, analyzing it, and then staing your own opinion. We are given the oppurtunity to look outside the box. We are allowed to think bigger. My experience in this class so far is that I am given the chance to think harder and be more conscious about what I say, but I am also allowed to express my own personal thoughts. My strength in this class would be giving my opinion. My weakness would be stating the sources from my facts. I have learned that in this class I must do my critical reading at home in order to participate in clss discussions. I also learned that I must do my research to state certain facts in my papers. I am now more comfortable with using blackboard than originally. When writing the global perspective of going green stays in mind which is why i do enjoy the factor of turning in our work online. This class has educated me on various things and it is teaching me a lot more about research. I enjoy my freshman english class!! 

Convocation September 24, 2010

“An experience to never forget” quoted a Howard University student. On Friday, September 24, 2010 I was truly inspired. This is the day I experienced my first opening convocation at Howard University. This University has been opened for 143 years. It was a life changing event. Many students acted as if it did not matter but to me it meant a lot. I am actually glad that I was recommended to attend the program. The program consisted of singing, informational notes, and an amazing speaking who went by the name Benjamin Carson. The information received was influential. Many people spoke. They told us how they wanted us to be great. We, Class of 2014, are now apart of a great university. We are now given the opportunities to bring that better person out of us. Benjamin Carson also known as Ben was a man of value. He said various things that students, faculty and staff can relate to and actually understand. When people receive guest speakers they expect to have someone who will keep their interest. Many people also want to gain something inspirational out the speech. When this man spoke to us that is te vibe I received. He gave me the energy to be better and do what I need to do to be better. He was educational. This very person is one of the best surgeons in the nation. He separated the two Siamese twins who are still living til this very day thanks to him and God. He is a legend who made history, yet when he was younger and in school no one would believe he could do such a thing. In school he was called dummy and no one but his mother and God believed in him. When people do not believe oin you for some people that can be hard. Of course, everyone wants those people who they know and love to believe in them, but sometimes it just does not happen that way. Ben Carson showed and proved to us that you do not always need those people to succeed, as long as you have faith in yourself and God here is another way. To achieve your goals he says, “You must work hard”. He discusses his medical school experience. About 6wks after he started his medical school experience, his grades were not where he wanted them to be in order to do weell in his field. After his advisor realized this he told Carson, “I do not think you are cut out for this, maybe we should find something different for you.” Ben ignored the comment and kept reaching for his dream, and now he is one of the best surgeons in the country. This shows us that no matter what people say as long as you work hard, keep faith, and have the passion you can do anything. You can be the best if you choose to be the best. He was very encouraging and inspirational. At convocation, I was given the chance to listen and adhere to everything I was told. I did gain a lot. I came to a great understanding of certain topics. I appreciate being able to attend an event like this program. It was inspiring and influential.

Obama's Bad Week

Obama had a very interesting week recently. He argued against on various occasions. It got to a point to where the people who supported him said they were beginning  to lose faith not all but some. They feel like the man they voted for who spoke about how much he was going to put in change, yet they feel as if no change is being done. Some of them have even gotten to a point where they said they may not even vote in november. This is not good at all as you can see. I feel as if he is trying ot take on the world by storm but he results have yet to be shown. I believe he is working hard for change. Sometimes you can not rush change you must wait for it to arise. Obama is implanting the seeds for the change but we as a nation must help it to grow. He can not do the job by himself. He is the leader and he needs help. It is ok to need help because one cannot do it alone they need a team. I feel that if we as a nation stick together and put in some hard work, then we can help Obama change the future.

When I hear this quote I think of all the issues we have in the U.S. For the longest, as African Americans, we just settled. Current Event: Jay-Z signs Willow Smith

The fact being that age does not matter has a lot to do with society these days. As long as you have your God given talent and you are prepared to use it then you are preparing yourself for your career. Many people called young talent prodigy. Willow Smith, daughter of actor and former musicisian Will Smith, has just signed a record deal with famous rapper Jay-Z. She has been heard to have an amazing voice for a nine year old. Like her brother, Jaden, she is starting her life and career at a young age. It is a wonder. This young girl has been inspired to be better.  In an interview with Ryan Seacrest, Jay-Z, was acknowledged on saying that he sees Willow as a superstar and he believes in superstars. He wants to help her fulfill her dream as and artist. It is great to see people help others when they know true talent. Willow has already proven that through her fisrt song, "whip my hair"; this is the first song that consumed Jay-Z. In the future, plan to see this young lady because she may just be a child to you but soon enough she may be a lot of young girls' idol.

Improving Our Community As African Americans Through Barack Obama

In America, racism is an issue that is clearly ignored and avoided. People are so focused on the minor issues; they do not look at what really matters. We try to cover up racism through subjects such as politics, businesses, and even in our public school system. This is a problem that continues to pull our communities apart. In  his speech, "A More Perfect Union", Barack Obama addresses, how our fights against each other are bringing us down as a country. We are so concentrated on the immature situations in this country that we have yet to come up with a solution to the major problem of racism. If that problem can be adjusted that would be a healthy start to our unified country. When we make certain decisions in life having to deal with racism and unity, we do not just affect ourselves, we affect America. America cannot be whole if the people are not whole. As African Americans, we so negatively complain about the problems we have with prejudice people or racists; that we never take the time to look for a solution to fix the predictament. Obama's entire speech was based on unity  and America coming together as one, but if we do not discuss our issues and actually come to a solution, then we will forever be stuck in the past. It takes more than one person to make change. As African Americans, we must first start this movement as an unselfish people. Then, we must allow ourselves to be open-minded. We cannot repeatedly have built up anger,"black anger", as the other races would say. We must try to work together with all races. Although things may not always go as planned, we must never give up. As a community, people have the power to make changes and this is our turn.
